Dimension Films to Remake Korean Action-Thriller THE MAN FROM NOWHERE
Dimension Films has announced that they have acquired the rights to the English-language remake of one of the highest grossing Korean films ever. The Man from Nowhere was South Korea's biggest box office generator of 2010 and spent five straight weeks atop the ranks of ticket sales. Directed by Jeong-boem Lee and starring Bin Won and Sae-ron Kim, the film followed a mild-mannered pawnshop owner who finds himself going back to his bloody and violent roots to protect a little girl from an organ-trafficking ring. Dimension Films has tapped Shawn Christensen (Abduction) to pen the new script. Hit the jump to check out the synopsis and trailer for the original The Man from Nowhere. Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS Set for IMAX 3D Release
Everything about Prometheus (Ridley Scott's sort-of, but not really prequel to Alien) was already fairy epic—that cast, that trailer, that synopsis boasting of space travellers journeying to the edge of the space to find the meaning of life (I feel dwarfed by the incomprehensible vastness of the universe just thinking about it). Well, imagine all that, but twice as big, because Deadline reports that, in addition to puny, regular-sized screens, Prometheus will also be running in IMAX 3D when it's released on June 8. Alien, my favorite Scott film, is an utterly masterful marriage of sci-fi and gothic horror. My hopes for Prometheus aren't quite so lofty. But I'm definitely shelling out the extra dough for an IMAX ticket when the time comes. Elton John, Rocket Pictures Get to Work on GNOMEO & JULIET: SHERLOCK GNOMES
Gnomeo & Juliet, the most gnome-filled Shakespeare adaptation to date, was a bit of lively if ultimately unsatisfying fun buoyed by a soundtrack of Elton John hits. As it did solid bank at the global box office, John (who was an exec producer on the film) and his production company Rocket Pictures are gearing up for a sequel called Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes (hey, you try coming up with a concept that rhymes with "gnomes." It's hard!). Per Deadline, John is back in the studio composing new music for the film (the first one having featured only two new tunes mixed in with the classics), while Gnomeo writers Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil are working on the script. Original director Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2), meanwhile, will be sliding into a "creative consultant" role. This time around, the plot will see the titular protagonists (originally voice d by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt) seeking out the renowned (but inept) gnome detective to solve a rash of gnome disappearances.
