Warner Bros. Puts ARTHUR & LANCELOT Back on Track with Colin Farrell in Talks to Star
For a while there it looked like Arthur & Lancelot was destined to linger in development hell for the next several years. Warner Bros. put the project in motion last year with David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, The Change-Up) set to direct his own script. The pic landed a couple of promising leads—Game of Thrones star Kit Harington as Arthur and The Killing star Joel Kinnaman as Lancelot—but the studio abruptly put the project on hold just before its January start date to address budget issues. When Harington and Kinnaman signed on to other projects (Haringon to The Seventh Son and Kinnaman as the lead in the Robocop remake), the film looked to be in doubt given that both would have to return to their respective TV series later this year. SXSW 2012: MODUS ANOMALI Review
Introducing an unreliable protagonist at the start of a movie is a tricky proposition. On the one hand, it's an instant mystery. Why doesn't the main character have the full facts and what is the secret regarding his identity? He's in the dark and so we're in the dark, and together we're trying to find out the truth. But that kinship with the protagonist is broken when we remember that while the main character may be trying to get to the truth, he can't be trusted. Modus Anomali has to function on these dynamics, and they prove to be the film's undoing. The premise allows for writer-director Joko Anwar to craft an intense thriller, but we have an escape route by knowing that the protagonist can't be trusted. When Anwar finally makes his big reveal, we're glad we were never too invested. A man (Rio Dewanto) claws his way out of a shallow grave and finds himself i n the middle of a jungle. New THE AVENGERS Posters Assemble into a Banner
On Monday, Marvel released six character posters for The Avengers. Now, through the magic of Photoshop, Marvel has slightly re-arranged some of the characters and released a new banner for the movie. Thor should probably keep his head up if he's in the middle of a huge battle, but he's also a Norse god so may be he can afford to take a little battle-snooze. Hit the jump to check out the banner. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4th.
